The first edition of Dutch Microbiome Day took place in Wageningen on June 12, 2025, and brought together 150 participants from academia, research institutes, and industry. This diverse group — including students, scientists, professors, and professionals — came together to exchange knowledge, present new findings, and explore future opportunities in the microbiome field.
The day featured a rich program with keynote presentations, a poster walk highlighting nearly 40 research projects, and ample space for discussion and connection. Topics ranged from microbiome applications in agriculture to early-life development, reflecting the breadth and relevance of microbiome science.
The event was defined by high-quality content, engaged participants, and a collaborative atmosphere. Dutch Microbiome Day 2025 successfully laid the foundation for an annual gathering that fosters interdisciplinary exchange and innovation.
We are pleased to announce that the next edition will take place on June 11, 2026, in Groningen. We look forward to building on this momentum and welcoming even more contributors to the growing microbiome community.
The Dutch Microbiome Day aims to be an event to enhance the symbiosis among microbiome loving researchers and other impact makers in agriculture, ecology, healthcare and the food industry.
Most knowledge of the microbiome can be gained by studying the interaction between soil and plant, plant and animal, food or pharma and the human microbiome. In these different domains, mechanisms of action may overlap. At the Dutch Microbiome Day, you’ll find inspiration from peer researchers, particularly those in other domains, as they share their journeys to gaining insights.
Whether you are a junior scientist seeking inspiration or eager to share your research, an entrepreneur looking for innovative solutions, or an investor looking for opportunities, the Dutch Microbiome Day is your chance to expand your network, gain perspectives beyond your own domain and stay at the forefront of microbiome science.
